Usually, when an administration changes in government, there are a lot of changes that are made immediately. However, not everyone is happy with the changes an administration makes.
A change that the administration might have made, is not going down well with Hunter Schafer. The actress has decided to make her woes public and let everyone know what she is going through.
Now, keep reading to learn more about what she has said.
Hunter Schafer, who is proudly a transgender actress, has made it public that the new administration has made a change that has directly affected her.
The Euphoria star posted on her social media what changes had been made to her passport that she had not been expecting. She taped up her passport so her personal details not already known by the public were hidden.
She asked everyone to focus on the category where sex is mentioned for the passport holder. Where her gender is written, there is an โMโ; it was previously written as โF.โ
The actress shared how her passport had been one of the things stolen when she was out of the country filming. She was issued a temporary passport and only now was able to get her passport reissued.
However, when she received her new passport, she noticed that she had been labeled as โmaleโ in her sex.
In the video she says, โI want to acknowledge my privilege, not only as a celebrity transwoman who is white and thin and can adhere to contemporary beauty standards and I can participate in all of that, and I pass, and it still happened.โ
โI never had my birth certificate changed, so this has led me to believe that I think the agencies who were interested in passports are now required to cross reference birth certificates,โ she went on to explain.
โI donโt know exactly what, or what changed in far of the processing goes,โ she shared with her audience.
She revealed that she has had her โgender markerโ changed on official documents now for over a decade. This is the first time, she said, that it was not acknowledged by the administration. She said that while it had been changed, it did not change anything for her.
โI also want to say, I donโt give a fโck that they put a M on my passport,โ she told her audience. โIt doesnโt change really anything about me or my transness, however it does make life a little harder,โ she said.
โPersonally, I mean I havenโt tested it out yet, Iโll found out next week when I have to travel abroad with my passport, but Iโm pretty sure itโs going to come along with having to out myself to like border patrol agents and that whole gig much more often that I would like to or is really necessary,โ Schafer shared her worries.
She, however, was worried that other trans women might also face similar circumstances but might not have the same resources she has as a famous actress.
She wanted to reiterate her beliefs, she said, โTrans people are beautiful. We are never going to stop existing, I am never going to stop being trans, a letter on a passport canโt change that.โ
โI donโt really have an answer on what to do about this, but I feel it was important to share. This is real. So, um yeah, fโck,โ she concluded.
People were upset both for her and at her. One comment said, โYour passport is supposed to list your sex, not what you pretend to be.โ
Another wrote angrily, โThatโs weird. Maybe itโs because youโre a man? You donโt get to force your delusion on everybody. This culture is disappointing.โ
But there were many that rose to Hunter Schaferโs defense. One person wrote, โWhy are yโall so bothered by how someone chooses to identifyโฆ ignorant AFโฆ acting like it causes you physical pain or something.โ
Another person shared their thoughts, โSo much hate and ignorance about how others choose to live. It literally has ZERO affect [sic] on your life. Sounds like you guys are the real snowflakes here.โ
Another shared, โMy heart goes out to all trans peopleโฆ this change is pointlessโฆ trans people will always be visible in this world no matter what.โ
One user chimed in with their support, โI donโt understand why people care so much about another person gender, how does that affect your daily life? Hunter, we love and support you.โ
President Trump has signed four executive orders pertaining to trans people after he took office last month. He has said that the government will only recognize two sexes from now on which are male and female. The orders said โsexes are not changeable.โ
Another order restricted โgender-affirming care,โ which includes both hormonal and surgical care, for those under 19 years old.
