I shouldn’t have come. Sitting among the guests, I thought it was just another wedding, another chapter in his life that had nothing to do with me. Then he spoke. In an instant, the atmosphere changed, gasps rang out around the room, and the perfect day crumbled before my eyes.

This thought echoed in my head, playing on repeat like a song I couldn’t turn off. The grand hall of the Old Manor Chapel was breathtaking with its high ceilings, golden chandeliers dripping with light like melted honey, and rows of ivory roses filling the air with fragrance.
It was the kind of wedding people talk about for years, the kind that makes you believe in fairy tales.
But not me.
I sat stiffly in the third row, hands folded in my lap, my nails pressing into my palm just enough to feel something other than the pain in my chest.
