Analysts run simulations mapping potential blast zones and radioactive fallout. Some central U.S. states—like Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota—often appear on theoretical target maps because they host key ICBM infrastructure.
But a nuclear exchange would never stay regional. Fallout, disrupted supply chains, power grids, medical systems, and financial networks could spread the impact nationwide.
Even areas labeled “lower risk” offer no true safety. The real focus today is shifting toward preparedness—strengthening infrastructure, protecting food and water, improving emergency communication, and building resilient communities.
