My sister killed our father with a single sentence, not in body but in paperwork and passwords, in the quiet administrative spaces where families store their trust. The word “died” crackled through the speaker while he sat three feet away from me in his navy robe, stealing bacon off my plate, listening to his own erasure in real time.
